What is East Asian Medicine?
I use the term East Asian Medicine (EAM) to refer to the many healing modalities that have their roots in East Asia, encompassing everything from the clinical to the quotidian. This includes the highly systematized methods of acupuncture that have been integrated into hospitals in Korea, Japan, and China. This also includes the every-day care practices I grew up with, like birthday bowls of miyeokguk, drinking ginger tea for colds, and never leaving the house with wet hair. These practices all have theoretical basis in Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism and are living traditions that continue to evolve in response to new technology and changing times.
In my clinic, I primarily practice Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. This includes moxibustion, nutrition, gua sha, and cupping. In addition to these forms, I offer energy work based in Japanese Reiki healing. I also offer both virtual and in-person appointments for Chinese Nutrition Coaching.
*East Asia is a term used to encompass the regions of China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. My work comes primarily from Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Okinawan lineages, as these are what I have studied and grown up around. I use hanzi/hanja/kanji characters to improve accessibility for patients who know these scripts
